What if we lose these nutrients?
That hardly bears thinking about! But we must be realistic. EU Regulators are quite unpredictable and often make decisions based on expediency rather than for the good of the people generally.
We will, of course, continue to obtain valuable nutrients through our diet - but many would say that is simply not enough for many people and for 'at risk' groups.
In addition, there is now scientific evidence showing that our food no longer contains the nutrients it once did - mainly because world soils have become depleted through intensive farming methods and the need to feed expanding populations.
Supplements will be invaluable - if we are allowed to keep them - and we must all join the fight to do so.
If nutritional supplements are banned - or the dose levels dramatically reduced, we will need to be very careful about what we eat. To ensure we get as many nutrients as we can, we need a DAILY diet of fresh, locally produced food that is not nutritionally bankrupt. Forget convenience foods and those ready meals you tend to grab while on the go. What is needed is lots of fruit and vegetable every day - chosen from a variety of bright colours, and organic whenever possible to reduce the amount of toxins and chemicals put into the body.
Global warming, restricted supplies of water, will both add to the problem. Losing supplements today is just part of the problem of how we look after ourselves, with more hurdles to come.
